About Luca

I studied engineering and after 5 years I’ve started traveling and working online and doing volunteering. I crossed all America from Patagonia to Canada without flying, passing by all the countries hitchhiking, walking and camping for 3 years. I know many cultures and lifestyles around that allow me to see wider and connect more. Moreover I’ve turned into an artist selling watercolor paintings (lucancaburdraws.com) in Mexico with a motorhome that I’ve built on my own in a minibus. I love having international friends and always learning from other cultures and also teaching mine.

About the lesson

I'm an Italian native speaker and I can teach easily to many people worldwide since I speak fluently English, Spanish and Portuguese. I am an Italian tutor on two platforms: on Duolingo and linguallama.org. I will teach you not only the Italian language, but all that concerns Italian culture. Learning a new language means learning the whole package: way of thinking, acting, expressing yourself and the culture. Moreover about me I studied engineering and after 5 years I’ve started traveling and working online and doing volunteering. Among all her busta schedule she finds her time for learning Italian. What I appreciate always from students is their willing of learning new things mostly when it comes naturally and not imposed by something else. Victoria is a really committed student always courius about Italian culture and language. After 23 years of having left Italy, I love that she wanted to go back to it and brushing up on her Italian knowledge and improve it. I can see her spontaneous interest in the subject and that makes it easier for her to learn and makes more satisfaing to give her classes

1) Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?
I'm Italian, born and grown up in Italy until my 29 yo and lately, until now, I have been living in different countries. I can speak fluently 4 languages (and one medium knowledge), then I can compare the grammar structures of them and explain them better to who is willing to learn Italian starting from their own language.
2) Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?
The most Italian famous character nowadays I think is Roberto Benigni, not only an actor but a true lover of Dante: the Italian language's father.
3) Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behavior in the language that you particularly like?
As many of you know, Italian language has a common informal code far from the classic words and that is the "Italian gesture list". I can show this folkloric feature explaining the most used gestures and their meanings (yes :) we can communicate entire sentences only by gestures).
4) Why does speaking this language matter to you?
I hope you can learn Italian well since I believe it's the key for cultural fields as music, theater, fashion and a help towards other Latin languages.
5) What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?
Don't be scared by some issue in your beginner learning process, it's normal that at the first time it could seem hard to learn Italian for its phonetics or grammar, but with a little time you will discover how beautiful and rich of a vocabulary it is in order to express perfectly your thoughts and feelings.

Books and movies in original settings are always the best tips to follow to improve faster.
6) How has travel helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?
If you know other languages it will be easier as it has been for me when I learned Spanish and Portuguese. Their grammar had me thinking and analyzing the Italian one as never before.
7) What makes you a Superprof in language?
I can say I'm a superprof since I can teach with enthusiasm my own language to a lot of people from different parts of the world explaining the first steps in their native languages: a nice smooth not scary start.
