About Sarah

Hello! My name is Sarah. I'm a first-year at McMaster University for Life Sciences. Some fun things about me: I incredibly love basketball and getting involved in the community. I'm an executive on McMaster's first-year council; you can find my reels on the msu_fyc Instagram page! And in high school, I launched a non-profit tutoring initiative that's still going on today! I graduated from Abu Dhabi International School in the United Arab Emirates as the top-scorer in my school's International Baccalaureate program for Medicine, receiving the awards for biology and psychology along with awards for distinction. From my early childhood, I discovered I LOVE teaching. I'm currently teaching undergraduate physics and chemistry at McMaster which added to what I taught voluntarily back home far exceeds 100s of hours of experience tutoring students. This has allowed me to grow my teaching beyond pure practice and explanation but rather as an intricate, student-based approach that my former and current students have expressed they truly value. About the lesson

My approach prioritizes the learner and where they fall along with what they hope to achieve. For a learner with little to no Arabic skills, lessons would introduce essential phrases then dive into the phonetics and structure of the Arabic language - emphasis on the types of sentences (Verb or Noun sentence), then some exposure practice, an idea of the alphabet, then learning how to identify root words and conjugate them. However, these outcomes will be adapted to the learner's pace, strengths, and goals. For stronger learners, lesson plans would be structured based on on-going evaluations of what skills they should improve and what the best support is. What differentiates me from other tutors is my patient, supportive, and encouraging method that has supported learners from various backgrounds and in other subjects including Math, Chemistry, Physics, and Biology. More than that, I'm passionate about preserving Arabic in this new generation and empowering shy Arab speakers. And this love for the language expresses itself in each lesson. My teaching is most suitable for people with little to no Arabic background, previous exposure but certain gaps in knowledge, or even those with a strong background who need help only with speaking or only with reading/writing. I've previously taught poetry analysis and advanced literature, too. However, my teaching is most suited towards those aiming to improve in the language to a professional or conversational level similar to C2 in most language standards.
