About Yuzuki

I am a Japanese international student at the University of Sydney, where I study Advanced Computing. Growing up in Japan, I developed a deep connection with the language through competitive debate. I was a Chiba Prefecture debate champion and through writing fiction in Japanese spanning sci-fi and conflict genres.

Beyond formal language, I grew up immersed in Japanese youth culture, anime, manga, and light novels, giving me a natural fluency in the casual registers and cultural nuances that make Japanese feel alive rather than academic. And yes, I am objectively otaku, I admit.

I believe language learning should be active and challenging. My teaching approach reflects how I personally engage with Japanese, through real texts, real opinions, and real expression rather than rote memorization. Real language experience yields real strength.

About the lesson

My lessons are designed for motivated learners who want to develop genuine Japanese proficiency, not just pass a test. I teach beginner through advanced level, with particular strength in literary Japanese, reading comprehension, and written expression.

Methodology: My signature approach involves active engagement with real Japanese media — students read authentic newspaper articles, write summaries, and compose opinion pieces in Japanese. This builds vocabulary, reading speed, and the ability to express complex ideas naturally, skills that textbooks rarely develop. Grammar and conversation fundamentals are covered for beginners through structured exercises before progressing to this framework.

Who it's for: Beginners looking for a strong foundation, intermediate learners hitting a plateau, and advanced students wanting to tackle real Japanese texts, JLPT N2/N1, or improve their writing quality.

Qualifications: I am a native Japanese speaker currently studying at the University of Sydney as an international student. I write fiction in Japanese across multiple genres including sci-fi and conflict literature, giving me deep familiarity with sophisticated vocabulary and register. I also have deep familiarity with contemporary Japanese youth culture, anime, manga, and light novel language — the casual speech, slang, and cultural references that formal textbooks ignore entirely. If your goal is to understand what you're actually watching or reading without subtitles, I can absolutely help you.
