About Octavia

My name is Octavia and I am an IB graduate of the class of 2022. I took Biology, Visual Arts, and English Language and Literature as my Higher Level subjects, and Chinese B, ESS, and Math AI as my Standard Level subjects. I am now entering my third year at Vassar College, where I am pursuing a double major in Biology and Chinese. I am extremely passionate about the IB and helping current IB students because I know how valuable the curriculum is. Without studying IB I would not have gotten into my dream school and been able to adapt so quickly to such an academically rigorous environment, achieving a 3.92 GPA in my first semester. As an IB graduate who received a 42, I know how hard it can be to be an IBDP student sometimes. However, I also know that taking time to unpack and understand your IB courses will help you to work smarter, not harder, and be able to achieve a 7. I have studied the whole IB curriculum, all the way from the Primary Years Program to the Diploma Program. I was not always successful in my studies in the IB, but during my DP years I finally cracked the code of how to succeed in my courses in the least painful way possible. Now I want to use my experience and resources to help others achieve the same, and even better, results.

About the lesson

I have extensive knowledge and experience in IB Higher Level Biology and I am enthusiastic to share the techniques I used to study and achieve a 7 out of 7 just two years ago. As I am still pursuing a degree in Biology in college, these concepts remain fresh in my mind. I have also learned about these topics more in-depth, giving me a greater understanding that I can use to teach in a way that can be tailored to any individual needs.

I am only available to do online lessons, using either Zoom, Google Meet, or Skype. My lessons are for IB Diploma Program students taking either Standard Level or Higher Level Biology. However, I also provide lessons for current IB MYP (preferably grade 10) students planning on taking HL or SL Biology.

Although subject to each individual and their needs, a typical lesson plan for an hour-long session includes around 15 minutes of going over the topic currently being studied at school, about 20 minutes of help with any assignments or homework, and around 25 minutes of practice questions. I prioritize practice questions over everything because in my experience these are what helped me understand how to get the most marks on my exams. I have subscriptions to IB questionbank resources that students are not able to access, which can help very much in exam preparation.
