About Maren
Over the past six years I have helped more than 220 students overcome their mathematical fears and achieve results they never thought possible. My background combines a degree in pure mathematics with training in cognitive psychology which informs my understanding of how humans learn and retain mathematical concepts. I began tutoring after noticing that many intelligent students were failing maths not because of intellectual limitations but because of anxiety and poor foundational preparation. I have worked with students preparing for GCSE A-level IB and university entrance exams as well as adult learners returning to education after long breaks. My proudest moments come when students who once dreaded maths begin to see it as a creative and logical adventure. I design all my own practice materials and maintain a digital library of over a thousand original problems organised by difficulty and concept. Outside of teaching I enjoy chess competitive problem solving and writing about the history of mathematics. I believe that everyone has the capacity for mathematical thinking and my mission is to help each student discover their own mathematical voice.

Mathematics should feel like a puzzle rather than a punishment and my teaching method is designed to restore joy and confidence in numerical thinking. I begin by identifying the specific cognitive bottlenecks that prevent each student from progressing whether it is a gap in foundational knowledge maths anxiety or difficulty translating word problems into equations. My lessons are highly visual utilising graphing software geometric sketches and colour-coded algebraic steps to make abstract relationships concrete. I teach mathematics as a language of patterns encouraging students to look for symmetry regularity and structure before reaching for formulae. For statistics I emphasise real-world data interpretation over mechanical calculation teaching students to question sources recognise bias and communicate findings clearly. Trigonometry is introduced through the unit circle and wave phenomena rather than memorised ratios. Every session includes spaced retrieval practice to strengthen long-term memory and interleaved problems to build flexible thinking. I teach students to write mathematical arguments with logical coherence and precision preparing them for both standardised tests and university-level proof-based courses.
