About Melis

Hello! I’m Melis, a UCL Linguistics graduate, experienced university lecturer and current PhD researcher at the University of Greenwich. I hold a BA in English Language and Linguistics from the University of Westminster and an MA in Linguistics from University College London (UCL). My doctoral research focuses on language processing and cognition. I have previous university teaching experience in syntax, semantics, pragmatics and language acquisition. Through my academic and teaching experience, I have developed a passion for making complex ideas easier to understand and helping students feel more confident in their abilities. I offer personalised online English lessons for adults and university students, whether you’re learning English as an additional language, looking to improve your grammar and vocabulary, or hoping to become more confident in speaking and writing. I also provide academic English support for university students who want to strengthen their essay writing, academic vocabulary, presentations and communication skills. I understand that learning a language or developing academic skills can sometimes feel challenging. My approach is patient, encouraging and tailored to each student’s individual needs. Whether you’re starting from the basics or looking to refine your existing skills, I’d be happy to help you work towards your goals!

From there, I’ll tailor our lessons to help you make progress at a pace that works for you. My teaching approach focuses on clear explanations, practical exercises, guided practice and constructive feedback. I encourage students to ask questions and actively participate in their learning. There is no need to worry about making mistakes; they are a natural and important part of the learning process! My goal is to help you develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to use English independently. All lessons are delivered online, allowing you to learn from wherever you feel most comfortable.
