About Mohsin

My name is Mo, and I just finished my 2nd year studying medicine at Imperial College London! I chose to study medicine for countless reasons and I'm glad that I made this choice! Firstly, there is the academic aspect - I really enjoy learning about human biology and then to incorporate that with chemistry to understand physiology and pharmacology makes it even more interesting! Moreover, taking modules which teach essential research skills and build on mathematical skills such as applications of statistics have significantly improved my ability to interpret and analyse literature. However, beyond that, I chose medicine because of it's fundamental principle of using your competencies to help people and to provide them with the best outcomes possible. I have found a way to achieve this currently through tutoring and I am loving it!

I have been passionate about tutoring since year 10. I would always volunteer to help explain difficult concepts to my friends in class and began tutoring a family friend for his SATs test. Since then, I created a tutoring company where I helped dozens of students excel academically and develop life-long independent learning skills. I have gained lots of insights from my experiences and have a completely different approach to tutoring now. I try my best to help students in the long-term by heavily focusing on collaboratively creating effective study systems to empower independent learning.

2 MAIN SERVICES OFFERED:

Short term and long-term services for GCSE and A-level students.

The short-term services I offer are on-demand lessons that include the occasional support for a test or a topic that student's may find challenging and require help to understand the content and to improve their exam technique. To help such student's, I have spent countless hours compiling and refining content to create resources and tips aiming to achieve a good understanding of subject knowledge and building key skills for exams. Having considerable experience, I am able to quickly gauge student's current abilities and use this alongside their targets to create and execute holistic lesson plans.

The long-term service on the other hand, is my speciality and what sets me aside. It is a programme I call 'Beyond Exams.' Here my focus is more on building a key relationship with my student's, and spending time to understand their strengths, weaknesses and goals. Then I collaborate with them to create holistic study systems and teach them study skills, time management skills, organisational skills, and project management skills amongst other skills that empower independent learning and prepare them for university. Student's looking to enrol on this programme are usually required at minimum to commit to 30 minutes worth of 'study skills' session and 2 hours worth of 'content' sessions per week for a period of atleast 2 months in order to achieve good results . Payments are taken on a monthly basis and there is an option to discontinue after the first month if you are not satisfied.

TECHNIQUES AND METHODOLOGY OF LESSONS:

My typical lessons last 1 hour (minimum) but I offer a maximum of 3 hour lessons. I structure my lesson’s holistically thinking of each student’s needs (which I establish beforehand), but generally the lessons are split into 2 components: Theory and Exam technique. For the theory part, I use my subject knowledge, and my thoughtfully compiled resources alongside my understanding of what is relevant for the student’s level to help them better understand topics. Then I help them apply the knowledge within exam questions and provide them with advice on how to answer different types of questions. Finally, I give them feedback at the end of sessions and collaborate with them to better tailor future lessons. For my longer term student's, I hand out end of topic tests to monitor their progress and create detailed progress reports with improvement points to help them excel.

MY EXPERIENCES AS A TUTOR:

I have been tutoring student's for the past 6 years. In that time I have tutored over 20 student's ranging from KS3 all the way up to A-levels. My passion for tutoring encouraged me to co-found a tutoring company called 'LM Tutors' in 2020 where I experimented various teaching styles and research based methods for long-term study systems before creating 'Beyond Exams.' Sadly due to philosophical differences amongst the partners, the company was dissolved but I am still looking to continue to help student's and hope to launch another company soon. In addition, I am also part of Vision Imperial - an outreach society for disadvantaged students at Imperial College London – where I run sessions to help people prepare their medical school applications. My experiences have helped me gain key insights which I want to share with people so they can achieve their potentials through establishing and following powerful evidence based study systems.
