About Xavier

My approach to teaching guitar centers on cultivating curiosity and a sense of discovery in every student. I believe that technique, theory, and repertoire are tools—not goals in themselves—and that real growth happens when these tools serve creative expression. Lessons begin with foundational skills like finger placement, rhythm, and tone control, but we quickly move into musical applications tailored to each student's interests. Whether it's blues improvisation, fingerstyle arrangements, or composing ambient soundscapes, I create assignments that inspire exploration and challenge. I emphasize listening deeply—not just to notes, but to phrasing, dynamics, and emotion. I also encourage students to develop good practice habits, breaking down complex passages into manageable parts and reflecting regularly on progress. One of my proudest moments was helping a student move from playing simple covers to composing and performing an original set of songs that told their personal story. I see teaching as a partnership, where I provide guidance and encouragement while helping students find their own voice and joy in making music.

About the lesson

My guitar teaching method is about more than building skills—it’s about building a connection between you and the music you want to create. We begin with a focus on technique—how to hold the instrument, build strength and accuracy in your fingers, and develop smooth chord transitions and rhythmic fluency. But I never teach skills in isolation. Everything we do is tied to your musical tastes and goals.

If you're excited about alternative rock, we'll dive into progressions and textures from that genre. If you're into jazz, we'll study voicings and phrasing. I make theory easy to understand and directly applicable—how a chord resolves, how rhythm creates tension and release, how a scale opens the door to improvisation. Lessons are always adapted to how you learn best—whether that means watching and copying, working from charts, or jamming along to backing tracks. I check in regularly and shift our direction based on your feedback, interests, and even energy level that day.

Guitar is not just an instrument—it’s a vehicle for self-expression, so I emphasize creativity, emotional connection, and musical storytelling as you grow. We also work on broader musicianship: how to listen critically, plan your practice efficiently, and prepare for live performance. I bring in examples from my own playing and from other musicians to demystify challenges and inspire your path forward. Whether you’re picking up the guitar to play your first chord or preparing to write or perform your own music, I’m here to support your journey with structure, encouragement, and clarity.
