About Swati
I hope my art describes me better than my bio does.
I have been a professional illustrator for over 12 years, with 8 years of experience in publishing. I graduated from a very traditional art school and it taught me 2 things : to question traditional art-teaching methods, and to appreciate and respect other artists.
I recently moved from Goa, India, to Toronto. I love teaching because honestly, it's mostly encouraging and guiding students to find THEIR voice, THEIR style, and THEIR purpose, with a generous sprinkle of 'the more you draw, the better you'll get at it.'

I believe art is as much about WHAT you say as it is about HOW you say it. My educational background is a chunky mix of Fine Art, Psychology, Art based therapy, and Creative writing. I bring together all that I have studied and all that I am learning, to tell stories. I think it's important to be the narrator and the main character of your life. I teach narrative art so you can unlock the storyteller in you and document your experiences in creative ways.
Here's how I tailor my lessons to each unique individual :
- Share your purpose... Tell me why you want to draw,
which tools you want to use (digital illustration on procreate or adobe photoshop, pencil on paper, oil on canvas),
what you are looking for from our lessons (skill development, sharpening your technique, storytelling, documenting your life, journaling as a therapeutic practice, building a career in illustration, making a book,...)
- Share your goals
- We develop a 10 lesson plan for you
- We review your growth and plan ahead
- At this point you can continue lessons with me or
- We create a plan for self-study for the future
