About Peter
I am a teacher of English literature, history, religious studies, theology, and related disciplines, as well as a chess tutor with competitive experience in the US and the UK. My undergraduate degree is in Religious Studies (mostly biblical studies and Christian theology), and my graduate degree is in Medieval Literature (Viking and Anglo-Saxon Studies).

My approach to the humanities heavily values primary sources paired with select bits of commentary and conversations with the student(s) after readings to further engage them. My chess instruction relies on the teaching of foundational and positional principles, game studies (famous games as well as the student's own), tactics drilling, and occasional puzzles. I tend to forego sharing engine analysis with students in favor of book and historical game positions since the point is to teach the strategic ideas in various positions instead of simply teaching the best move.
