About Malaya

As a Howard University student in a rigorous biology program, I have developed strong academic writing and communication skills through extensive coursework that requires clear, precise, and well-structured English. Although my major is in the sciences, my training has strengthened my ability to write analytically, organize complex ideas, and communicate them effectively—skills I bring directly into my tutoring.

Alongside my academic background, I also have experience with AP English and creative writing, which has given me a strong foundation in reading comprehension, essay writing, and literary analysis. This combination of science and humanities training allows me to support students in both technical and expressive forms of writing.

My approach is patient, structured, and encouraging. I aim to help students break down reading and writing tasks into simple, manageable steps so they can build confidence and independence over time. I focus on strengthening fundamentals such as thesis development, essay organization, grammar, and critical reading strategies.

In each session, I adapt to the student’s needs—whether they are working on school essays, improving reading comprehension, or preparing for exams. I prioritize clarity, consistency, and steady progress, while creating a supportive environment where students feel comfortable learning and asking questions.

Students and parents can expect professionalism, reliability, and a tutor who is genuinely invested in helping students improve both their skills and their confidence in English.

My tutoring approach is patient, supportive, and personalized to each student’s needs and learning style. I focus on making reading and writing feel less overwhelming by breaking skills down into simple, manageable steps and building confidence through practice and encouragement.

My teaching method combines guided practice with real-time feedback. For reading, I help students slow down, understand what they’re reading, and learn how to identify key ideas, themes, and vocabulary in context. For writing, I focus on structure first—helping students build strong thesis statements, organize their thoughts clearly, and then improve grammar, clarity, and style step by step.

A typical lesson depends on the student’s goals, but it usually starts with a quick review of what we worked on before, followed by a focused skill lesson (like essay structure, reading comprehension, or grammar). Then we do guided practice together, and I gradually let the student work more independently while I give feedback and corrections. We always end with a short recap and clear goals for the next session.

What sets me apart is that I genuinely aim to make English feel less intimidating. As a Howard University student with AP English and creative writing experience, I understand both academic expectations and how stressful writing can feel. I bring a calm, encouraging approach that helps students gain confidence, not just grades.

My lessons are for elementary, middle school, high school, and college students who need support in reading comprehension, essay writing, grammar, or general English skills. I also work with students who want to strengthen their writing for AP English or college-level assignments.
