About Todd

During my high school education, I was a below-average math student, feeling uninspired and unmotivated to grasp the subject. However, in my final year, I enrolled in an advanced chemistry course almost by accident. It was during this class that I experienced a dramatic shift in my perception of math and its significance. Suddenly, I developed a strong desire to comprehend everything about the subject and to pursue STEM fields with enthusiasm. This led me to stay behind my classmates and opt for the optional grade 13.

Despite facing some resistance from teachers due to not meeting the prerequisites, I successfully enrolled in all advanced science and math courses, including calculus and advanced functions. To prepare for this academic challenge, I dedicated my summer break to self-teaching the majority of the math curriculum. This effort resulted in a rapid transformation, making me a top student and culminating in achieving an honor roll with distinction. In my time in University I became one of the go-to classmates for help in math, going as far as being paid by my classmates parents to carve out extra time for tutoring.

Having personally experienced the challenges of academia, especially in understanding and learning math, I am committed to helping students recognize the simplicity of math. My goal is to assist them in discovering the relevance of math to their individual interests. I aim to demonstrate the profound connection between their interests and a deeper comprehension of math and its underlying simplicity.

About the lesson

Mathematics is one of the most misunderstood subjects, yet it holds great importance in the modern world. I entered high school with minimal motivation to learn and comprehend math. However, upon leaving high school, I had developed a profound passion for the subject, integrating it in unexpected ways into my academic pursuits, career, hobbies, and daily life.

My objective is to impart the beauty of mathematics by emphasizing a deep understanding of its surprising simplicity. It is crucial not only to grasp the 'how' but also the 'why' and 'when,' recognizing the practical applications of mathematical concepts. Math can be seemingly impossible if even a basic concept is misunderstood. Often, a subtle shift in perspective or a review of fundamental principles is all that is required to experience that gratifying "Eureka" moment.

I strive to motivate my students to genuinely comprehend what they are putting on paper. Only through this understanding can they carry these principles forward to subsequent lessons and apply them comprehensively.
