About Daniel
My goal is to make my students' lives easier and more enjoyable. People learn best when they're having fun, and if my lessons aren't fun, then I have failed as a tutor.
I recently graduated with high distinction from the BSc biology program at Carleton University. During my time there, I did research in three different labs, mentored many younger students, and worked with several professors to improve their courses. I even took a full-semester graduate-level class on evidence-based practices for education in science. Before that, I worked for nearly two years as a peer science tutor at Dawson College in Montreal.
My interests in biology are very broad, ranging from cell and molecular biology all the way to landscape ecology.

I recognize that everyone learns differently, so I tailor my methods to the needs of every student. Tutoring one on one or in small groups makes it easy to take interactive approaches such as the use of physical objects as models, a whiteboard for all of us to write on, and frequent practice questions for students to exercise their knowledge. I always encourage people to be curious and ask questions because that's what makes a good scientist. Most importantly, though, I never force anyone to do anything with which they're not comfortable, whether that be asking questions or answering my own.
Just as I give feedback to help students improve their learning and performance, I always welcome feedback from students to help me tutor better. After all, everything I do is for them. In that sense, tutoring is a process of continually learning alongside my students.
I am available for every level from elementary school to university, online or in person in the Ottawa area.
