I am a biotech student who is about to obtain an undergraduate degree in biology (honours) specializing in biotechnology. During my initial years in the program, I taught life science and biology courses to my peers and juniors who took similar classes.

I believe that cramming and brute memorization is not a good method to study any subjects. Rather, understanding the main concepts, the reason behind why they are learning it, and real world examples would increase their interest towards a subject and will allow them to do better at courses without trying too hard.
