About Tharunika

Hi! My name is Tharunika, and I am currently a Bachelor of Health Sciences student at Queen’s University with a strong background in STEM, research, and mentorship. I graduated high school with a 98% average and have received numerous national awards in mathematics, science, and computing, along with major university entrance scholarships.

I have previous teaching experience as a Kumon Math & Reading Centre Teaching Assistant, where I worked with students of different ages and learning styles to strengthen their understanding and confidence. Alongside tutoring, I am involved in biomedical research, AI healthcare projects, and STEM outreach initiatives, which allows me to connect academic concepts to real-world applications.

As a tutor, I focus on creating a supportive and engaging learning environment tailored to each student’s needs. I believe in building strong foundational understanding through clear explanations, guided practice, and problem-solving strategies rather than memorization alone.

I offer lessons for elementary, middle school, and high school students in mathematics, biology, chemistry, physics, computer science, and study skills. Whether students are aiming to improve grades, prepare for exams, or deepen their understanding of STEM subjects, I am committed to helping them succeed with patience, encouragement, and personalized support.

About the lesson

I believe that every student learns differently, so I adapt my teaching style to match each student’s goals, strengths, and pace. As a tutor, I focus on building strong foundational understanding rather than memorization alone. I use interactive explanations, practice problems, visual examples, and step-by-step problem solving to help students gain confidence and improve academically.

A typical lesson usually begins with reviewing previous concepts and identifying areas of difficulty. I then explain new material in a clear and organized way, followed by guided practice questions and independent application. I also provide study strategies, exam preparation techniques, and methods for approaching difficult questions efficiently. My goal is to create a supportive and encouraging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and developing critical thinking skills.

What sets me apart is my combination of academic achievement, teaching experience, and real-world STEM research involvement. I am currently a Bachelor of Health Sciences student at Queen’s University with a 98% high school average, extensive national awards in mathematics and science, published research experience, and previous experience as a Kumon Teaching Assistant. My background in research, programming, healthcare innovation, and STEM outreach allows me to connect concepts to practical real-world applications, making lessons more engaging and meaningful.
