About Skylar
A typical session feels like a genuine collaboration where we tackle everything from barre chords to complex strumming patterns. Grade exam prep and ear training are 2 core pillars of my teaching approach.
You will start with a free trial session so we can assess your level accurately and determine the right path for your development. My BA Music degree ensures that everything we play is backed by solid theory. We work through reading tabs and soloing in a way that feels organic to your growth.
I promise to keep the pacing steady so you never feel overwhelmed by the music. You will find the material sticks much better when we balance theory with actual playing.

Sitting down with a guitar after a long day in the folk scene is where I feel most at home. I bring a deep knowledge of music theory, improvisation, and acoustic technique to every student I meet. Having taught 309 students, I have seen every type of learner from teens and kids to absolute beginners and advanced players.
My own journey reflects the grit of the Montreal scene and the discipline of 13 years of steady practice. You might find my style a bit hands-on. I like to keep things moving while keeping the vibe relaxed. I promise to keep our focus on making sense of the fretboard rather than just memorizing shapes.
