About Elena
Hello! I'm a history graduate with a First-Class BA (Hons) in Fashion and Dress History and an MSt in History from the University of Oxford. My academic and professional experience has been shaped by a passion for uncovering the stories of the past and making history engaging, accessible and relevant.
Alongside my studies, I have worked in museums, archives and heritage organisations, including the Bodleian Libraries, the National Galleries of Scotland and special collections and archives. These roles have strengthened my research, communication and organisational skills, while giving me hands-on experience working with historical sources and helping people engage with history.
I want to teach because I believe history is much more than memorising dates—it is about understanding people, cultures and the events that have shaped our world. My aim is to help students build confidence, develop critical thinking skills and enjoy learning, whether they are preparing for GCSEs, A-levels, university applications or simply studying for personal interest.
Every student learns differently, so I tailor my lessons to suit individual needs, learning styles and goals. I create a friendly, supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and developing their understanding at their own pace. Together, we'll work on improving subject knowledge, essay writing, source analysis, exam technique and confidence, making history both enjoyable and rewarding.

My approach to tutoring is centred on making history engaging, accessible, and easy to understand. I tailor each lesson to the individual student's needs, identifying areas where they need the most support and adapting my teaching style to suit their learning preferences. I encourage students to ask questions, think critically about historical events, and build confidence through regular practice and discussion.
I use a combination of clear explanations, worked examples, exam-style questions, and active recall techniques to help students develop both their historical knowledge and exam skills. Where appropriate, I also use timelines, source analysis, and revision resources to reinforce learning and improve understanding.
Lessons typically last 60 minutes, although I am happy to accommodate different lesson lengths depending on the student's needs.
I am comfortable tutoring GCSE History and below, including Key Stage 3 students. My focus is on helping students strengthen their understanding of key topics, improve their analytical skills, and prepare effectively for assessments and examinations. I also like to explain a topic related to the students' interests. For example, if I am teaching a lesson on WW2 and a student has a particular interest in football, for example, I will include a fun fact about football during the time in the lesson.
