About Courtney

I am a student, currently in my second year of university. I have advised peers on essays, coursework and personal statements for their own university journal - all becoming successful in their applications.
In having studied history from GCSE, my knowledge covers a variety of subject areas and have developed succinct essay writing skills that enable students to brave what can seem like daunting long-answer questions.

My own academic ability has seen me achieve History GCSE and A-level A*’s and I was the first person at my Sixth Form to achieve an A* in History. I have gone on to achieve the top of my year in my first year of university for my course, receiving the J.A Paterson Award.

About the lesson

Specific knowledge, and relevant application of this knowledge are aspects crucial to any history course, and with outside experience such as working with English Heritage and taking part in London Model United Nations as a delegate and head delegate give me a practical understanding of historical areas that makes the subject more accessible to students - which is the approach I take with my tutoring to ensure lessons are both useful and engaging.

Making a subject that can seem overloaded with small details, dates, and timelines to remember makes history appear as fact-recall. This is where I can help students to develop their arguments around these main points in exam questions, demonstrating to examiners that their essays are of a high standard.

My teaching is suited to abilities up to university, both GCSE and A-level, where teaching will be made to suit each student individually.

Together our first free lesson will include developing a general understanding of student levels and areas of strength and areas that would like to be worked on, which is what future sessions will be molded to.

Further lesson structures and what to expect from me include topic context clarification, exam and essay skills practice, practice questions to follow up with revision tips and tricks.
