About Anthony
Hello, and thank you for visiting my profile! My name is Tony de Lacey, and I am a dedicated and passionate History and Politics tutor with over seven years of classroom teaching experience and a rich history of tutoring and mentoring students from a variety of backgrounds.
I hold a BA in History and Politics from the University of Nottingham and a Level 7 PGCE from the prestigious Institute of Education (UCL), where I graduated with the highest honours. My professional journey has taken me from private tutoring to teaching at renowned institutions like City and Islington College and City of Westminster College. Most recently, I have worked at Fulham Senior School, adding to my repertoire of skills and experience in delivering high-quality education.
My teaching philosophy is rooted in creating engaging, interactive lessons that cater to the individual needs of each student. I use a mix of traditional and modern techniques, integrating innovative tools like Microsoft Teams, Nearpod, and interactive apps to enhance learning. Whether we're exploring the causes of historical events or analysing political ideologies, I aim to ignite a genuine passion for the subject while equipping my students with the skills they need to excel academically.
During my tenure as Head of the History and Politics Departments at City of Westminster College, I implemented strategies that significantly improved student outcomes, including raising top-level grades and reducing dropout rates. My students consistently praised the clarity of my teaching and the supportive environment I fostered, which led to increased satisfaction scores and a higher percentage of students achieving places at their first-choice universities.
As a skilled communicator with a background in amateur dramatics, I bring creativity and enthusiasm to my teaching. My love for history and politics is matched by my commitment to helping students build confidence and critical thinking skills. I’ve also led professional development sessions for educators, focusing on leveraging technology to improve learning outcomes, and my lessons have been described by OFSTED inspectors as "among the best they’ve ever seen."
When I’m not teaching, I’m often working on creative projects like writing books or directing plays with The Hurlingham Players, where I currently serve as Chairman. These experiences further enrich my ability to connect with students, making learning both rigorous and enjoyable.
If you’re looking for an experienced, approachable, and results-driven tutor who can help you achieve your goals in History or Politics, I’d love to hear from you. Together, we can make your academic journey not only successful but also deeply enriching and enjoyable.
Let’s start this adventure together—drop me a message, and let’s discuss how I can support you in reaching your full potential!

Tony is a fantastic teacher. He's taught me a lot in the time I've known him. He has a warm, approachable energy that tells you questions and curiosity are always welcome. He has command over his field like no other, being able to pick names, dates and facts out of his head like they're second nature, and can always provide stimulating conversation.
Anthony De Lacey carried out his one year placement at City and Islington College teaching history to students on the Access to H.E diploma. He was reliable, creative in lesson planning and delivery and demonstrated an ability to support students in their learning objectives. He was polite, punctual and did not have any time off. His teaching methods were interactive and progressive.
