About Edward
After a First-Class Degree from Durham University, I achieved a Master of Studies and a DPhil in U.S. History from Oxford University. During this time I tutored undergraduate history, helped with the UNIQ summer school, and helped prepare students in underprivileged schools prepare for Oxbridge interviews. For the next three years, I worked as an unqualified teacher in the Sixth Form at Maria Fidelis FCJ: a non-selective state school in central London. As well as academic mentoring, I became the lead on the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), cover-taught Politics and History A-Levels and contributed to the Gifted and Talented stream in Years 7-11. Since then, I have pursued other projects while developing my PhD thesis up to the point where it is nearly ready for publication. I am currently under contract with Peter Lang to publish my thesis as a book in 2024.

I am available to teach history at GCSE, A-Level and undergraduate level. I am highly experienced in the EPQ qualification, and have taught Politics A-Level in both tutorial and classroom settings. Having taught within a curriculum, I am used to using learning objectives to ensure that tutorials are well-structured, clear to the tutee, and it is possible to measure progress at the end of the session. That said, I am also responsive to the requirements of the individual student, and have taught a wide range of abilities as well as both highly motivated and under-motivated tutees. I have also given a number of references for current and former students, and am happy to offer advice on university applications as this was one of my responsibilities as a teacher.
