About Daniel
I am a tutor that specialises in improving pupils' grades in GCSE and A-Level History, with specialisms including the 20th Century European dictatorships (Italy, Germany, Russia) and UK history during any time period. I can teach to every exam board, and typically pupils will see an increase in attainment of at least one grade, if not more. My teaching style is relatively informal and, dare I say it, fun! Notwithstanding, it is also very effective. I do expect tutees to work hard and to be prepared to think hard both during lessons and for any work I set outside of them. As part of my offering, I also assist A-Level pupils with personal statements and preparatory reading for university applications and interviews as standard. After an initial assessment (to see where a pupil is in terms of attainment, knowledge, etc), I tailor lessons in the short run to address obvious and immediate weaknesses, and any lack of particular historical skills. This process can improve a pupil's attainment relatively quickly. In the long run, my lessons become more effective as I focus not only on historical content, but also developing the pupil's skills in research, logical argument and interpreting sources. The typical length of any lesson delivered by me is one hour, and I've been tutoring for three years now, with an exceptional track record of increasing attainment. I am also able to prepare candidates for a History Aptitude Test (i.e., the prerequisite to applying to Oxford) on request.
