About Gemma
I'm a History graduate from the University of Warwick with a deep passion for making the past come alive for students. Throughout my studies, I developed a strong appreciation for how history shapes the world we live in and I believe that understanding it is key to becoming a more thoughtful, informed person. Teaching is something I'm genuinely passionate about. I've always enjoyed helping others learn and seeing that moment when something clicks. I know that school history can sometimes feel overwhelming or dry, but I aim to show students that it can be fascinating, relevant, and even fun with the right approach. Having benefited from great teachers myself, I understand the difference that personalised support can make. My goal is to help students not only improve their grades, but also develop confidence, curiosity and a genuine interest in the subject.

As a History graduate, my teaching style is student-focused, flexible, and tailored to individual needs. I aim to make history engaging and accessible by helping students understand not just what happened, but why it matters. I focus on building strong essay-writing skills, critical thinking, and exam technique. Each session is carefully planned around the student's goals, whether that's improving their grades, boosting confidence, or mastering specific topics. I begin by identifying any gaps in knowledge and working collaboratively to strengthen understanding through discussion, analysis of sources, and structured practice. I encourage active participation in lessons, guiding students through historical debates, timelines, and themes while using past papers and exam board criteria to ensure we stay aligned with assessment expectations. I also provide regular feedback and study tips to support independent learning outside our sessions. Whether you're aiming for a top grade or just want to improve steadily, I'll provide a supportive and motivating environment to help you get there.
