About MaryEvelyn
I obtained my BA in Art from Gardner-Webb University in 2024, and will complete my MA in Public History from The University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2026. My passion in life is to make the study of history accessible in a modern (and heavily digital) era.
I have collaborated with many historic organizations and individuals throughout the past decade in this pursuit, and am finalizing a Master's thesis on the application and memorialization of art in social movements.

Whether I am teaching art history or mainstream history, my priority is engaging with WHY things happened and WHY they matter. The memorization of who, what, when, and where are all easier to remember once the WHY is fully understood.
My typical lesson plan includes an overview of what will be covered, then an introduction to context of the era, then the basic core facts of the topic at hand. All lessons include some order of visual source material, verbal processing, and tools for active recall. This way, all learning styles are included and considered in the retention of course material. I love customizing lessons to meet specific student needs.
I accept students at any level, as my experience ranges from K-12 through college and later adult ages.
My interdisciplinary experience sets me apart. Because of this, I am a teacher who comprehends how widely different individuals interact with the study of history, and apply it to their lives in a variety of ways.
My personal experience as a fine artist provides valuable insight to students, allowing for a thorough understanding of art history.
