About Tim

Hi, my name's Tim, I'm a multi-instrumentalist from Ballarat Australia with 14 years teaching experience in schools and music centres/shops. I am collaborating with Nawab Khan and the Raaga Science project from Jodhpur, India to offer in depth lessons on North Indian raga music from Nawab and his community of highly professional artists.

I am there to demonstrate ways to explain and adapt the lessons for guitar and other Western instruments, and also create tabs and standard notation for the lessons.

Beginner to advanced students are invited to join our range of lesson options.

This is a wonderful opportunity to get quality insreuction from master musicians at an affordable price. Payment will go towards supporting the social and cultural initiatives of Raaga Science.

About the lesson

Each lesson focuses on one raga, which is like a scale except with many rules and regulations as to how is should be played to achieve the correct sound and mood.

We cover all the basics, and then go into detail regarding the signature phrases of each raga, how to develop the raga and improvisation, as well as learning traditional songs and compositions that exemplify the raga.

These lessons are particularly valuable for anyone wanting to learn about the universal language of music and deepen their musicality.

Melody, scales, techniques and important practice exercises are also covered in an enjoyable and friendly approach.

Children are encouraged to join, group lessons are also available.

Students will receive high quality sheet music in guitar tab and standard notation, as well as audio clips to compliment the lessons.

Our approach is clear and professional and the teachers are accomplished musicians who are very passionate about their art and passing on knowledge and skills.
