During the past two years that Roland has been my French tutor, I have made far more progress than I did in all my 7 years of school French lessons. While the vocabulary I had picked up from school (GCSE) was useful, I was forever being misunderstood due to poor pronunciation and grammar. Roland took me back to first principles: Phonetics and pronunciation of the vowels and consonants whose subtle difference to the English ear is all important in French, with potentially very embarrassing consequences of mispronunciation (I was mortified to learn I had been pronouncing ‘merci beaucoup’ as ‘merci beau cul’ for years)!
Roland’s friendly and supportive approach to teaching French is well structured and logical, incrementally building one’s understanding of French grammar rules and its idiosyncrasies. His passion for both linguistics and teaching shines through as is evident in the variety of teaching materials and tools he has amassed to help his students build vocab, improve listening and speaking skills and hone their grammar. Most importantly, his enthusiasm serves to inspire the student to succeed, as ultimately the onus is on us to learn. I can thoroughly recommend Roland as a French tutor.

Roland is an excellent instructor. He is very flexible and willing to adjust to my needs and schedule. I was a beginner when we began lessons a few years ago and my progress has been great with Roland's help. Very good at both fundamentals and modern applications.
