About Ross

I am a highly experienced teacher and curriculum leader, with more than a decade of classroom and private tutoring experience. I have worked with students of all abilities in my career and have taught a variety of different subjects and specifications.

I have worked for over 10 years at a comprehensive school in Kent, the last 6 of those as Head of Humanities. In that time the results my department achieved at GCSE and A Level were consistently in line with or exceeding national averages, a considerable achievement in the context of operating within a system with grammar schools. I have tutored private students for several years preparing them for GCSE and A Levels. I have worked with students of all abilities and am able to work with students aiming for the highest grades possible and those who are struggling and are aiming to pass.

I love teaching and my passion and genuine enthusiasm for the subjects I teach and for learning in general are frequently commented on by students and colleagues. I believe that education is the vehicle that will take you where you want to go in life, and it is my privilege to help and support students who value their education. You will find my lessons to be engaging, informative and valuable and will help you to master difficult subject matter and develop learning habits and skills which will serve you well as you continue with your learning.

About the lesson

I believe education is a valuable asset everybody can use to explore and better understand the world in which we live. It is not just about getting the best grades.

My lessons therefore aim to inspire a love of learning as well as being a useful support for a student preparing for exams. My lessons aim to develop student subject knowledge, exam technique skills and critical thinking through a variety of approaches honed over a decade in the classroom, working with a broad range of mixed ability pupils.

I tailor all lessons to the needs of each and every student. The content and activities will vary depending upon the requirements of the learner and the subject and level of qualification. Generally speaking my lessons are 1 hour long and are structured with a review of prior learning before introducing the enquiry question under consideration in that lesson. New content will be analysed and discussed and then applied through deliberate practice. The lesson closes with a final review of the learning from that lesson and some feedback.
