About Kerris
My name is Kerris, and I am a junior attending Francis Lewis High School. Because of my previous school's tediousness to preparation, I have been able to take many English and Non-English related AP/Honors courses throughout my freshman and sophomore year. I have a keen passion for slam poetry-- and I have won several state/local level competitions for my own work. Apart from my achievements of a 100 on my English Regents as well as several fours and fives on my AP exams, I also have many indirectly related awards. I have been a member of the National Junior Honor Society, as well as National Honor Society and the Gateway program. I was a part of Magazine/Journalism club, and I am a part of the FLHS Mock Trial team this year. As for my personality, I love to joke around with the people I tutor, and believe emotional checkups are very important. I want to hear about your day and form a bond with you! I hope we can make learning fun.

I am an experienced high school English tutor that usually begins by introducing the given or found material with an "objective of the day". My usual method includes teaching to the preferences of the English Regents, or many of the notable English AP classes. My lessons are suitable for middle/high schoolers struggling in writing argumentative/persuasive essays, deducing poetry and writing strategies, and tackling the tricky multiple-choice questions of typical English exams. I can work with given material, or prepare practice material if alerted in advance. I am very flexible when it comes to requests, and can teach additional skills that may help later in life such as: History, Debate, Public Speaking methods and oral presentations. I am also available to help with homework and projects.

Kerris is a sweetheart. So very patient and remarkably humble. Even though she's in the same grade as her, Kerris was able to assist my youngest daughter, Rachel, with regents prep. She failed the exam last year, but because of Kerris, she was able to pass this January. Phenomenal.
Kerris was able to help my son 7th grade with poetic and textual analysis, and get him a good grade on his state test! His first language isn't English, but she was extraordinary in teaching and her patience. I don't regret my investment in her.
