About Gemma

I am an enthusiastic individual who takes great care in any work that I do. I have a deep fascination with knowledge; I have always loved the process of learning (yes, even when it is extremely frustrating) right from when I was a child to now as an adult. I find myself seeking new opportunities to learn and grow every day, and I take great joy in sharing that capability with my students.

As a tutor, I can assure you of two things. First, you will have a mentor who is absolutely dedicated to your learning and development. Second, you will have a mentor that will turn what may be seemingly dry topics into something interesting. Learning can feel like a chore sometimes, but when taught from the right angle can be extremely rewarding. Let's change how you feel about your learning!

About the lesson

- I begin my teaching journey with any student/parent with a 30 minute free-of-charge call to discuss the current level of understanding, knowledge gaps and what goals/outcomes you hope to achieve with my help.

- I then build a teaching plan over an agreed time frame (e.g. 4 weeks, 8 weeks). This will give us a structured approach to lessons, the goal of this is to see what outcomes we hope to achieve from the work we put in.

- I have found that 1 hour lessons twice per week are most effective, but am happy to increase/decrease this based on the student's learning style.

- My approach to teaching is highly adaptive. I prioritize engagement and access at the forefront of my lessons, as I believe a student will find success in their studies when they find the topic interesting and the challenge attainable. I understand that different individuals understand concepts uniquely, and so I find creative ways to help students connect with their task at hand whether it be digesting technical concepts, preparing for an exam, improving essay writing or speaking ability. The goal is not just to pass but to excel by unlocking a deeper level of engagement with the subject matter.

- I have 5 years experience as a tutor working with students at primary, secondary and tertiary levels. I achieved a 98.90 ATAR when I graduated secondary school in 2020, with perfect scores in Literature, Economics, History and Chinese (although I do not tutor in Mandarin). I graduated with a double bachelor's degree from ANU in PPE (Politics, Philosophy & Economics) and Commerce (Finance Major) in 2025.
