About Beth
I've taken lessons in two languages that were not my native language, and doing that has taught me a lot about the process! It can be overwhelming, but understanding the language you're speaking is useful in so many ways! I love language, and am willing to spend as much time, energy, and effort as it takes to get you to where you need to be, it is genuinely my pleasure.
I have spent time in France, where I experienced what it is to speak another person's language. I also worked in a grocery store where many of our customers primarily spoke Spanish and Portuguese, which gave me a greater appreciation for those languages in my everyday life.
I also grew up moving around a lot, because of my dad's work. I've learned how to connect with people from different walks of life, and how to adapt, and how to keep an open mind. These experiences have given me a greater appreciation for the many languages that exist!

Hello! While English is my first language, I took 4 years of Spanish at the high school level and 2 years of French at the college level, and learning both of these languages has taught me there are things important to learning/knowing any language. The following are good measurements of how well a person knows a language:
- the ability to spell correctly a majority of the time
- at least a basic understanding of grammar to support speaking and writing the language
- the ability to speak the language at a conversational level
- all in all, someone should have a foundational understanding of how the language works and how to use it, so that they can put it to use in their everyday interactions if necessary
- the ability to write creatively is always a bonus, but not necessary
A typical lesson plan depends on what aspect of English a person wants to learn - if the goal is to hone their grammar skills, lessons are going to involve exercises including grammar trees and sentence labeling. The lesson is tailored to what the person wants to learn.
I offer lessons at the beginner level, to both native and non-native English speakers. Knowing French and Spanish is very useful for this and allows me to work with more people! I love working with all ages!
