About Jack

Hello everyone, my name is Jack. I have a degree in Civil Engineering and Science, majoring in Applied Mathematics and Atmospheric Science. I like to tutor maths, because I find it interesting in how it relates to real world problems, and also to keep my maths skills sharp for more complicated engineering problems and life in general. I have tutored many students in the past and I received positive feedback on my "simple maths" approach to teaching.

About the lesson

Simple maths is my approach to teaching, making sure to clearly explain everything, as much as possible, until the student is able to explain it back to me in their own words, so I know they know it, and use real world examples to help students understand why maths is so important.

The typical length of a lesson is 60 minutes. My qualifications include Bachelor of Civil Engineering and Science, majoring in Applied Mathematics and Atmospheric Science or BE (Hons) BSc, from Monash University, Clayton. I have tutored many students maths before, and I typically teach all primary year levels, up to year 7 to year 8, high school math students, however I am able to teach year levels 9 and 10 also in general, but not year 11 or 12 maths.

Please send Superprof your maths questions, well in advance, of the tutoring lessons, so they are able to send the questions to myself, and I will then solve them for you and then let you briefly try to work them out during the lesson and then explain any concepts you are struggling with. I have found this to be the most efficient use of the lesson time. Please also remember to ask your most important math questions first, and not to ask too many questions. For example, if you ask me 60 maths questions for one 60 minute lesson, then I will only have 1 minute to answer each question, which is not ideal. Please have your questions ready, and think to yourself, how long should I spend having this concept explained to me. I find for one question, depending on the difficulty of the math question, generally about 3 to 5 minutes is enough to answer each question, therefore, maybe have 10 to 25 questions to be answered by myself during the lesson.

I hope you choose me to be your maths tutor, and remember, doing well in school is very important, but also make sure to take breaks during your study, to relax and socialize.
