About Robyn
Improvisation, music theory, and acoustic fingerpicking are the bedrock of what I teach my students. I remember the smell of the room during my first Toronto gig 11 years ago, and I still carry that gritty energy into the studio. Studying at Selkirk College gave me a formal grasp of theory, but playing in the Maritimes taught me how to actually listen to a room.
Helping folks navigate barre chords or simple tab reading keeps my own craft sharp while I maintain my personal instruments. Teaching intermediate players is where I feel most at home. I am a musician first, and I keep my feet planted in the roots of traditional folk music.

Focusing on the groove is the only way to make a song truly breathe during practice. You start playing a rhythm and it just clicks into place like a gear turning.
My classes prioritize how your hands move across the fretboard rather than just memorizing notes on a page. We utilize your grade exam prep to ground the technical side of your playing.
It is important to know your maintenance basics so your guitar stays playable for years. I find that clear technique serves the music better than speed alone.
The theory happens naturally as we explore songs together. You learn the fretboard by playing it constantly. It keeps things moving at a steady pace.
