About Savannah

I have a degree in English Literature, specializing in composition and creative writing, from the University of Calgary (2004). I have taught writing to students from an enormous variety of backgrounds since. I especially enjoy working with students who are really struggling. I have never worked with a student whose writing didn't improve dramatically.

About the lesson

I teach a step-by-step approach to essay writing, using straightforward visuals and an overarching metaphor (I've dubbed it "the butterfly method") so that the lessons really stick. I work with all levels and ages, customizing my feedback to each student's weaknesses and strengths. Students learn how to write an A+ essay in just 6 sessions. Week 1 - How to compose a masterful thesis statement, the backbone of any great essay. Week 2 - Introducing your topic: how to set the stage for a clear and cohesive message. Week 3 - Outlining the body of an essay: how to skillfully lay out your topic for maximum impact. Week 4 - How to present the four types of proof that allow your essay to carry weight with an audience. Week 5 - Smooth transitions between topics and paragraphs within an essay: how to summarize and anticipate those topics effectively. Week 6 - Conclude your essay powerfully with some tips and tricks for creating an elegant finishing paragraph.
