About Kate
I received my PhD at the University of Southern California in the department of Development, Stem Cells, and Regenerative Medicine in December, 2021. I have over six years of experience in biomedical research, mentorship, and delivering presentations, and over two years of formal teaching experience, including creating content for and giving lectures on topics in the biomedical field. My past teaching and mentoring efforts have focused on advancing careers in biomedical sciences to underrepresented and socioeconomically disadvantaged students.
My overall teaching goal is for students to leave my sessions with solid foundational knowledge of the material that they can build on in future courses or apply in the real world. It is my intention that foundational knowledge in theoretical and lab-based biology, as well as scientific presentation skills, will build confidence in both the students who want to pursue a career in biology and those who are simply looking to improve their scientific literacy.

I can help middle, high school, and college students with ADHD master study skills, understand which ones work for them, and how to build motivation to finish tasks. As someone with ADHD myself, I know firsthand how powerful study skills coaching can be.
I can help explain both basic and advanced cell biology concepts to high-school and college-level students. I am happy to work through homework and assignments or help prepare for big exams.
I know that for many students biology is a whole different language and that sometimes it just takes a little extra guidance. I help to build students' self-confidence in their ability to grasp difficult concepts.
For high-school students with a special interest in biology who are looking for a challenge, I can be a mentor for a school science project or an independent research project. Many of my students have gone on to Ivy League schools and continued their research in university labs. Other students have gone on to attend medical school.
