About Gabriel
I hold a B.A. in History from Pomona College, where I graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a 4.0 GPA, and a recent admit to Harvard Divinity School where I plan to study for an M.T.S. in New Testament. As a community college transfer, I gained experience working as a peer tutor for a year at my previous institution, Pasadena City College, where I worked at a tutoring center and specialized in social sciences. During this time I worked one-on-one with both college and adult students who had come from all sorts of classes, from history to philosophy. I did everything from helping to edit papers to giving advice on where to get started with a research project. Indeed, I learned I was not alone with finding the prospect of getting started on a large research project daunting, and the importance of having some initial pointers for guidance in such a process.

I see the tutoring space as an opportunity to ask numerous, low stakes questions in order to prepare the student for when those same (or hopefully easier) questions come up on test day. In the first session, I hope to establish what their goals are and what some weak points might be. Then, I try to design exercises to strengthen those points, such as small geography quizzes, questions about important individuals, or the student's understanding of key concepts in certain regions and time periods (such as feudalism in medieval Europe or colonialism in 1500s South America). Finally, I also always look to tailor the exercises for the student's current class.
