About Conor
Hi! I'm Conor. Though originally from Texas (yeehaw), I've lived in Montréal for two years now. I received my Master's in Early Music from McGill University in 2025, where I studied harpsichord with Elizaveta Miller. Here in Montréal, I lead an early music band called Twisted Pearl, which exists to increase accessibility to early music and adapt its strengths to respond to contemporary needs. When I'm not playing, singing, or composing, I'm known to enjoy a good evening of food and wine with friends.

Don't own a harpsichord? No problem. Read on! Why harpsichord? It’s true that not too many musicians focus on harpsichord, but as students will quickly learn, it is a beautiful and expressive instrument that possesses certain advantages over other keyboard instruments. Also, unlike other instruments, such as flute or violin, a student can immediately hear a pleasing sound by gently pressing a key on the harpsichord, making it the best instrument for children to begin training their musical skills. Because of the nature of the harpsichord’s sound and touch, it is a superior instrument for teaching the skills of musical sensitivity. There is also a vast repertoire of exciting and charming music written for harpsichord that pianists cannot play to the same effect, and harpsichordists learn important skills not taught in most piano lessons, such as improvisation and artistic independence. Students will learn to weave music into life at the harpsichord, as well as fine-tuning their ability to listen and experimenting with improvisation. Anyone at any age with any level of musical experience can learn to play harpsichord well, and can derive pleasure for learning. Perhaps I’m biased, but I cannot recommend the instrument highly enough! As a teacher, my singular goal is to inspire in students a love for music and the harpsichord, also equipping them with the technical and artistic materials to excel as musicians. I desire for music to become something we want to return to every day, something we see as inherently valuable and worth our time. I will do my very best to expose to the student the simple joys of music-making, help him or her to remain steadfast in his or her studies despite discouraging moments, and provide encouragement and support in times of difficulty. It’s my hope to make the harpsichord accessible to everyone and introduce to others the wonderful music that we can create on it. Beginning students are not expected to own a harpsichord. We can discuss options for acquiring an instrument to practice on after the first lesson. Lessons can occur in my comfortable downtown apartment, or at the preferred location of the student. Lessons requiring me to travel off the Island of Montréal will incur a fee. For young students, parents are always welcome to observe the lesson, though this is occasionally a source of unnecessary pressure or distraction. I will notify the parent(s) if I believe their presence is inhibiting the student’s focus or comfort. I will clearly articulate the week’s assignment(s) after each lesson. I expect the student to practice regularly, making a conscious effort to achieve the set goals. Students are asked to keep a weekly practice log (if the student is younger, the parent will need to do this), which documents practice time and tracks accomplishments throughout the week. I will review the past week’s practice log at each lesson. I will discuss performance opportunities with the student or parents as they arise. I believe in creating opportunities for students! Students enjoy an annual studio concert with the other members of my studio. Please consider joining me in the journey of music-making. It will be loads of fun!
