About Charolisa
Teaching exists because playing music is a language that requires a translator. I spent 6 years traveling across the American South to play bluegrass and old-time festivals, which informs how I approach rhythm and acoustic technique. Over the course of 244 students, I have honed methods for teaching electric technique and improvisation.
I find that teens and hobbyists appreciate a laid-back environment. My BA in Ethnomusicology from UCLA provides a framework for understanding why we choose certain strumming patterns or soloing choices. I help grade exam candidates understand the mechanics behind tuning and maintenance. I enjoy the process of watching a student grow.
