When it comes to teaching algebra, my main goal is to show students that it’s not the scary math monster everyone makes it out to be. I like to demystify it right from our first session by showing them that they’ve actually been doing algebra since the first grade; I tell them that letters like x and y are just placeholders for mystery numbers, exactly like the empty boxes (\square) they used to fill in on elementary school worksheets. By stripping away the intimidating jargon, breaking problems into bite-sized steps, and keeping the environment completely low-pressure, I help my students drop their math anxiety and build genuine confidence.
