About Ian
I’m a professional violinist and have spent my career performing with many of the major orchestras in the UK. I’ve also had the chance to tour extensively with orchestras around the world, including trips to Japan, Korea, Europe, and the US. While I mostly perform with symphony orchestras, I’ve also enjoyed many years playing with Northern Ballet, where I’m a member. Every year, I perform at the BBC Proms and have had the pleasure of collaborating with artists like Paul McCartney and the Spice Girls. I love teaching and nothing is more satisfying than seeing the improvement in a student due to my help and encouragement. All I ask of my students is that they spend time practising between lessons. I look forward to helping you on your musical journey.

I am a graduate of the Royal Northern College of Music where I earned a GRNCM with Honours. I offer tuition in piano, violin and music theory. Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of working with the BBC Philharmonic, Hallé, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and many other leading orchestras across the UK. Additionally, I have taught at the RNCM junior department. My teaching approach is centred on encouragement, always keeping in mind the core purpose of learning an instrument: enjoyment. I offer lessons of either 30 minutes or an hour, with the longer sessions being suited to more advanced students. I am happy to teach students of all ages and skill levels, both online and in person.
