About Annie
I was the kid that always had a notebook and pencil nearby, I loved to write little stories and kept books stashed all over. As the daughter of a public school English teacher, I grew up reading her students' papers and discussing articles and essays at the kitchen table. Those passions turned into a university degree and staff writer position at two publications, and now I love to work with students on their writing journeys.
I have friends who shy away from writing and literature the way I steer clear of maths--our brains can be wired one way and it feels impossible to push them in a different direction! But working with someone who's passionate about what you're unsure of is the best way to see what strengths and interests you might be hiding.
I feel most understood when people read my writing and say "hey, I've felt that way too!" Or, "this is something I've been thinking about as well, thanks for sharing." Creative writing can be vulnerable and personal, and it's always been my favorite way of expressing myself.

Writing can be a welcoming outlet for some, with its space for creative control and lack of rules, and a confusing stressor for others, for the very same reasons. I believe everyone has a story to tell or subject they're passionate about sharing (or a looming deadline for a class paper!) and working one-on-one with someone can make all the difference in getting the words down on the page.
I work with students on outlining papers, responding to drafts, proofreading work, and talking through creative projects like poetry, fiction, or other forms. Lessons can be on a case-by-case basis (following school assignments, for example) or one-time sessions with a focus on specific skills.
I have a degree in Creative Writing and Literature from the University of Michigan and have published long-form narrative nonfiction work, essays, poetry, and more. I work primarily with secondary school and uni students, but am open to all ages.
