About Fionn
I am a recent graduate of Peking University and I love teaching and watching my students progress.
I believe that despite how intimidating the Chinese language can seem to students, as long as you are continuously interested and engaged, the learning process can become much less monotonous and far more rewarding.

As someone who has personally been through the often frustrating process of learning Chinese, I have developed a teaching philosophy for novice and intermediate students.
For novice students:
• A strong emphasis on pronunciation - understanding the differences between tones and how to recognise them.
• Moving away from the often robotic sounding learning materials and towards developing an understanding of how the language is actually used.
For intermediate students:
• Full immersion - many learners hit a point where though they have achieved a certain level of vocabulary and grammar ability, their real life language level hits a plateau. This issue typically cannot be overcome with traditional lesson plans. Through the use of Chinese media (TV shows and music), I aim to introduce the language into their everyday lives in a natural way.
