About Lucy

Hello! I'm Lucy, and I'm 22 years old from the Isle of Arran in Scotland! I have been playing flute for 14 years, and have just moved from London to Switzerland to study for master’s! I’m am also a founding member of the Iorsa Collective, and believe in increasing the accessibility of classical music to the wider public!

About the lesson

I am a freelance flautist and teacher, and a recent graduate of Guildhall School of Music and Drama (First Class BMus with Hons). I can teach flute, piccolo, fife and recorder, as well as music theory. I grew up on the Isle of Arran in Scotland, and have studied previously at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and the Music School of Douglas Academy.

I believe in a creative, intuitive teaching approach, and will always cater for different learning styles and abilities. I am trained in improvisation, and specialise in contemporary music (as well as the more conventional stuff!), so am happy to teach a wide range of repertoire depending on preference. My priority is always to get pupils involved in collaboration, and to assist them in finding ways to enjoy music as a social practice. I am also trained in Electronic Music Production and Composition should this be something you would be interested in.

A holistic approach is always a priority for me, having received training in Alexander Technique and Body Mapping (and as an avid yoga practitioner). Well-being is a central focus in lessons, to cultivate a healthy approach with instrumental learning and to avoid injury.

I have experience with a range of ages and abilities - all are welcome!

Location:

I am currently teaching online, as I am living in Bern, Switzerland while I study for my Masters in Flute Performance at the University of Arts Bern (with wonderful professors Adam Walker and Anja Clift). We can work around different set-ups and find what best works for you!

First lesson:

I am happy to arrange a consultation before committing to an ongoing lesson plan. Here we can discuss musical aspirations, as well as the more practical things like previous experience and your instrument. As mentioned, all levels and ages are very welcome!
