I have experience with one-on-one tutoring, facilitating small group work, and teaching large groups of students across middle school, high school, and undergraduate study. As an application reader for premier literary programs through Lambda Literary and the Oxford Writers’ House, I’ve worked with young and emerging writers to strengthen their voice, hone in on their style, and improve their analytical skills.
As a writer myself, with experience in academic and creative writing, I have both the passion and qualifications to support you in your journey as a scholar—now and beyond!

I believe in learning as a reciprocal experience. I may be the teacher, although I believe that I have just as much to learn from my students. As the child of a teacher, I understand how important a relationship of trust between student and teacher can be in fostering growth. As such, my personal pedagogy is grounded in a belief that learning should be enjoyable. I want my students to know that our lessons are about more than getting good grades—they’re also about developing self-assuredness, finding a love for literature, and bettering critical thinking skills.
In our first session, I will work with you to identify specific challenges and anxieties, discuss your learning style, and set goals for our time together. Our work together may cover essay writing skills, analysis of texts, and development of healthy independent study habits.
As we work together, I will read every assigned text with you and work to cultivate an individually tailored approach to tutoring and academic support. In addition to direct instruction, guided practice, and mock assessments, we will use scaffolding techniques such as crafting outlines and sentence starters, in order to ease anxieties regarding assignment deadlines, course workloads, and challenging material.
This work may look different across ages—middle school, high school, and undergraduate study. However, I have personal experience navigating those transitions and am eager to share study tools and techniques that’ve been invaluable to me along my path.

Henry tutored my son for English and reading. He is extremely patient and adaptable to students learning styles and communicative with parents about status and areas of improvement. Thanks to him, my son was able to not only get his grades up but also score higher on the ACT. Cannot recommend him enough!
