About Haley

Hello! ¡Hola! My name is Haley, and I have been teaching Spanish for the past two years. I have a master's degree in Spanish, as well as two bachelor's degrees, all acquired from Kansas State University. During my graduate program, I taught my own classes for Spanish I and Spanish II level students. In class, students learned vocabulary related to a variety of subjects such as food, traveling, history, and literature, so that they felt confident to navigate real-world situations and conversations. In addition to focusing on linguistic elements of the language, I also teach students about a range of cultural aspects and holidays that happen all across the Spanish-speaking world.

About the lesson

Hello! When it comes to language learning, I believe that students learn best through interacting and creating meaning with one another and their tutors/instructors. Keeping this in mind, I'm a firm believer of students using their creativity and autonomy to learn the language in a more personal and engaging way that also encourages long-term retention.

A typical lesson plan with me usually includes the following elements:
1) A set of 2-4 objectives
2) Warm-up questions based on previous lessons/knowledge
3) Engagement with the content & activities completed in the target language (Spanish)
4) Check-ins to evaluate student understanding of the concept
5) Goals for the next lesson

I believe what sets me apart as a Spanish tutor is my personalized approach to teaching. I strive to understand each student's individual learning style and adapt my lessons accordingly. Additionally, I have a master's degree in Spanish and have taken several courses on second language acquisition, both of which have equipped me with a deep understanding of the language and culture, which I integrate into my lessons to provide a more immersive experience for my students. I am also passionate about making learning Spanish enjoyable and engaging, often incorporating games, real-life scenarios, and multimedia resources into my lessons to keep students motivated and excited to learn.

As previously stated, I tailor my lessons to the needs/interests of my students. Nevertheless, I have the most experience teaching lessons within the Spanish I and Spanish II levels. I look forward to connecting with you!
