About Tyrese
I’m Tyrese Dennis, a graduate student in environmental science with a background in marine biology and a strong interest in coral reef ecosystems. I’m originally from Jamaica and now studying in Fort Lauderdale, which has given me the opportunity to experience both academic and hands-on learning in marine environments. Outside of tutoring, I work in a coral reef monitoring and restoration lab, where I help collect and analyze data, and I’ve also been involved in outreach and education through previous roles as a tour guide.
These experiences have shaped how I teach. I’m patient, approachable, and focused on helping students feel comfortable enough to ask questions and learn at their own pace. I understand that not everyone learns the same way, so I try to adapt my explanations to fit each student rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach. I take tutoring seriously and aim to be reliable, prepared, and respectful in every session. My goal is not just to help students improve their grades, but to help them build confidence and actually understand what they’re learning over time.

My approach as a tutor is focused on making sure students actually understand the material, not just memorize it. As a graduate student in environmental science, I know how overwhelming biology and related subjects can feel, so I aim to break concepts down into simple, clear explanations and build understanding step by step.
I usually start by asking what the student is currently learning and where they feel stuck. From there, I explain the topic in a straightforward way, often using examples or real-world connections to make it easier to grasp. I like to check for understanding as we go, rather than waiting until the end, so students stay engaged and don’t fall behind during the lesson.
A typical lesson might include reviewing class material, going over difficult concepts, working through practice questions together, and then having the student try similar questions on their own with guidance. I also help with assignments, exam preparation, and study strategies when needed.
What sets me apart is that I keep things simple and patient. I don’t rush through explanations, and I adjust my teaching style depending on how the student learns best. I also bring in knowledge from my own studies in marine biology and environmental science to give context when it helps, but I don’t overcomplicate things.
My lessons are best suited for middle school, high school, and early college students who need help with biology, environmental science, or basic ecology. They’re especially useful for students who want clear explanations and a more relaxed learning environment where they can ask questions freely.
