Who I Am – Self-Introduction to Students
Good morning, dear students.
My name is Maryjane Nduka.
I am a professional teacher.
I am passionate about education and the development of young people.
I studied Political Science Education at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
I have a Bachelor of Education degree.
I am also a registered member of the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN).
Teaching is more than a profession to me.
I see teaching as an opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of students.
I believe every student has unique abilities and talents.
My responsibility as a teacher is to help you discover and develop those abilities.
I want my classroom to be a place where everyone feels safe and respected.
I believe that respect should exist between teachers and students.
I also believe that discipline is important for successful learning.
I will expect you to listen when someone is speaking.
I will also encourage you to ask questions whenever you do not understand something.
No question is a foolish question in my classroom.
I want you to feel comfortable expressing your ideas.
I will encourage teamwork and cooperation among you.
I believe that learning becomes easier when students actively participate.
I will use different teaching methods to make our lessons interesting.
We may have discussions, group activities, questions, presentations, and practical exercises.
I will also encourage you to think critically rather than simply memorize information.
I expect every student to take responsibility for his or her learning.
I will be fair to everyone in this classroom.
I will not support bullying, discrimination, fighting, or disrespect.
I will correct you when necessary, but I will always treat you with dignity.
I expect you to respect your classmates regardless of their differences.
I believe mistakes are part of the learning process.
When you make a mistake, I want you to learn from it rather than give up.
I will celebrate your progress and encourage you to keep improving.
I want you to see me not only as your teacher but also as someone who supports your growth.
However, friendship in my classroom must always be accompanied by respect and responsibility.
I expect you to come to class prepared and ready to learn.
I also expect you to complete your assignments and participate actively in class.
In return, I promise to prepare well and give you my best.
My goal is to help you become knowledgeable, confident, responsible, and respectful individuals.
I believe that together we can create a classroom where teaching and learning are enjoyable.

Speech on the Best Methodology for Achieving Good Classroom Management

Topic: Effective Classroom Management: The Key to Successful Teaching

Good day, distinguished lecturers, fellow student teachers, and everyone present.

Today, I want to speak to you about a very important aspect of teaching: effective classroom management.

As future teachers, having good knowledge of our subject is important, but it is not enough. A teacher may know everything about a subject, but if the teacher cannot manage the classroom effectively, learning may not take place. Therefore, good classroom management is one of the foundations of successful teaching.

So, what is the best methodology for achieving good classroom management?

In my view, the best approach is a combination of clear expectations, positive relationships, effective communication, engaging teaching methods, consistency, and fairness.

First, a teacher must establish clear rules and expectations from the beginning. Students should know what is expected of them in terms of punctuality, participation, respect, assignments, and behavior. These rules should be simple, realistic, and consistently enforced.

Second, teachers must build positive relationships with their students. Students are more likely to respect and cooperate with a teacher who respects, listens to, and understands them. We should learn our students' names, encourage them, appreciate their efforts, and create an atmosphere where they feel valued.

Third, effective communication is essential. A teacher should communicate instructions clearly and avoid unnecessary shouting. Instead of always focusing on what students are doing wrong, we should tell them what they should be doing correctly. For example, instead of saying, "Stop making noise!", we can say, "Everyone, please focus your attention on the lesson."

Another important methodology is active and engaging teaching. Students are less likely to become disruptive when they are actively involved in learning. We can use group discussions, questions and answers, role-play, demonstrations, debates, educational games, and technology where appropriate. An engaged classroom is often a better-managed classroom.

Furthermore, a good teacher must be consistent and fair. We should not have different rules for different students. Discipline should not be based on favoritism, anger, or personal feelings. When students know that the teacher is fair and predictable, they are more likely to respect classroom rules.

We must also learn to manage misbehavior calmly and constructively. Every classroom will experience challenges. Instead of immediately embarrassing or humiliating a student, the teacher should first understand the reason for the behavior and address it appropriately. Correction should aim at changing behavior, not destroying the student's confidence.

Finally, we must remember that prevention is better than punishment. Good lesson preparation, proper classroom organization, effective time management, and meaningful student participation can prevent many behavioral problems before they occur.

In conclusion, good classroom management is not about controlling students through fear. It is about creating an environment where students feel respected, safe, motivated, and ready to learn.

As student teachers, let us remember that the best classroom manager is not necessarily the teacher who shouts the loudest, but the teacher who can inspire discipline, encourage participation, build relationships, and create a positive learning environment.

If we manage our classrooms well, we will not only teach subjects; we will help shape responsible, confident, and successful individuals.
