About Michael

Hi! My name is Michael and I live in New York City. I’m a recent graduate of a third master’s degree, all from U.S. universities, with the most recent being an Ivy League institution here in the city. In addition to being a lifelong learner myself, I have taught students of all ages for nearly 25 years. This includes one-on-one lessons in music, teaching instruments and proper singing techniques including diction and pronunciation of English for singing, and also working with choirs on proper singing technique and more. This experience not only underscores my passion for education and seeing my students be successful but a clear professional goal of helping others communicate in an effective way. I am excited to now bring my proficiency in the English language and my teaching experience to new friends around the world. I bring creative ways to make learning enjoyable so you are inspired to become a fluent speaker of the language. I am a certified tutor in TEFL and TESOL. My academic and teaching careers, along with my training and certification give me the tools to help you be most successful and reach your goals. Some of my hobbies include playing tennis, running, playing chess, music (listening and playing instruments/singing), traveling, and playing with my dog, Tilly.

About the lesson

I think learning should be enjoyable! It will be important to me that lessons are engaging, using games, role-playing, visuals, and stories. I like to find creative ways of helping you discover the language rather than merely taught about it. In a typical lesson plan, you could expect beginning in a conversational way. I will want to hear you share about any number of things including about your day. This will lead us to discoveries of new words, grammar, pronunciation, and more. Correct pronunciation will be a point of emphasis. Then a lesson might typically end with more ways of allowing us to practice more of what was learned.

I would consider myself a patient tutor who seeks to understand each student's particular needs in order to tailor lessons accordingly. I lean on my creativity and desire for a fun learning environment to create an engaging time together.
I am comfortable teaching all levels, from young beginners to older students wanting to brush up on the language.
