About Christian

Christian Gonzales is one of San Diego's finest young violinists. A graduate of Juilliard and UCLA, he has performed throughout the United States and internationally in Spain. He is also the owner of the Christian Gonzales Violin Studio which aims to provide high-quality violin instruction in San Diego. Named the winner of the 2022 Atwater Kent Competition, Christian was briefly loaned the 1732 Duke of Alcantara Stradivarius. He was also a finalist in the 2025 Augustín Aponte Competition, and a prizewinner in the Max Bruch, Charleston, Musical Merit, La Jolla, and the Grossmont competitions. As a soloist, he has performed with orchestras including the UCLA Symphony, International Youth Symphony, Cuyamaca Chamber Orchestra, and the East County Youth Symphony. He has performed as a recitalist for the Tenerife Music Festival, Da Camera Society, La Jolla Music Society, La Jolla Presbyterian Church Concert Series, Solana Salon Concert Series, Tanglewood Music Center, and the Juilliard ChamberFest among others. As an orchestral musician, Christian was a concertmaster of the Tanglewood Music Center Orchestra and the UCLA Philharmonia, and associate concertmaster of the Juilliard Orchestra. He has also performed with the New World Symphony and Jacaranda Music, and side-by-side with the New York Philharmonic. As an educator, Christian has given masterclasses across Southern California. He extensively studied pedagogy at Juilliard and has created his own technical and musical exercises for his students. A native of El Cajon, California, Christian started the violin at the age of ten. He has studied with Areta Zhulla, Movses Pogossian, Varty Manouelian, Alexander Palamidis, Travis Maril, and Shirley Stafford. Outside of music, Christian is a retired wushu athlete. He was a member of the USA Traditional Wushu Team, and an assistant coach and co-president of UCLA Wushu.

About the lesson

I have taught violin for ten years and have experience teaching students of various ages and levels. I have worked with beginners, intermediate, advanced, and pre-professional violinists at the conservatory level. I also have experience in music theory and ear training lessons, masterclasses, and chamber coaching. I have studied private studio, classroom, and music theory pedagogy at Juilliard and have developed my own unique technical and musical exercises. My main goal is to spread the joys of music to future generations and to make high-quality musical education accessible. I have had a deep passion for pedagogy for many years and am highly dedicated to my students in my studio. I am currently based in and serve the San Diego County area and additionally offer online lessons internationally over Zoom.
