About Carter

I have been tutoring students in a variety of subjects for the past 8 years, and I enjoy watching students grasp concepts that they once thought were impossible to understand. I will never ask a student to do something they're uncomfortable with, and I will always remind them that mistakes are an important part of the process.

About the lesson

I believe students learn best when lessons are personalized to their individual needs and learning style. My approach is patient, encouraging, and interactive, with an emphasis on building confidence alongside language skills. It's important to remember that everyone makes mistakes. I incorporate speaking, listening, reading, and writing into each lesson while using real-life examples. I strive to find ways to engage students while also teaching them important vocabulary and grammar rules.

Each lesson begins with a brief review of previous material and any questions the student has from class or homework. We then focus on the student's current goals, whether that's preparing for an exam, improving grammar, practicing conversation, or completing assignments. Throughout the lesson, I provide guided practice, immediate feedback, and plenty of opportunities to ask questions. We finish by reviewing key concepts and identifying what to practice before our next session.

As a substitute teacher and university teaching assistant, I have experience working with students from a variety of backgrounds and learning styles. I hold bachelor's degrees in both Psychology and Spanish/Hispanic Studies, giving me not only strong language knowledge but also an understanding of how people learn and stay motivated. I work to create a supportive, low-pressure environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes, asking questions, and gaining confidence in their Spanish abilities.

I work with middle school, high school, and introductory college students studying Spanish. I welcome students who are struggling and need extra support, as well as those who want to strengthen their skills and build confidence.
