About Sven

I am a graduate from UC in Applied Immersive Game Design, with a Level 5 IT certificate and 2 internships also under my belt. My University Degree consisted of learning:
- Python programming
- GUI design with Java
- C# programming in Unity Game Development

In my IT studies, similar topics in coding were covered along the following:
- Computer/hardware systems
- Networking
- SQL data handling.

During my studies I have worked in roles that involved a lot of mentoring for young people. One was as a lesson facilitator and tutor for school coding classes, and another has been in gymnastics coaching for special needs children which I still continue to this very day. While my studies educated me on the theory and practice of computer programming and other subjects, it is my work experience that enhanced my tutoring ability.

When I am not busy making video games and coding, you can often find me do the following: playing music, dancing, gym and swimming!

I am fun-loving person who believes that learning any activity (coding no less) should be enjoyable and motivating! If you need any assistance in your computer programming journey, then I am here to help :)

About the lesson

For me, the main priority is to make learning FUN. Sense of humour, unique projects and understanding what you are learning are all vital in achieving this. I also believe that pacing is important, and understanding what works best for each individual is important for them to learn well. When I first started programming, there were a lot of concepts that were so alien to me and it took me a long time before I finally got comfortable with designing my own little gaming experiences and GUIs. I therefore understand quite well how daunting and intimidating it can be to understand and master coding, especially if one has learning difficulties. So I pride myself in making computer programming a more pleasant activity.

My teaching style first revolves around seeing what the student already knows before determining where to begin. Once I am confident the student understands the concepts using console prints, they are then encouraged to apply the same features in something more intriguing and complex like a video game or webpage. I also use a portion of the time to tutor from my IT background in explaining the basics of computer architecture and digital electronics (e.g. logic gates, binary systems), as I feel that even a small understanding of the technology that makes coding possible is important for any programmer.

I have experience tutoring primary/intermediate school children in HTML/CSS and JavaScript, but am not limited in helping tutor other programming languages. Python, Java and C# are the languages I have the most experience and practice with. If looking at fully beginner level programming I can assist with C/C++.

For my lessons, I tend to look at 1hr per session on average but am willing to cater to what suits the student best. 1st/2nd year of University or High School are the highest levels I am able to assist with, and am open to tutoring people of all ages.
