About Chris
I have a BA in Music & an MA in Music Education (Distinction) fromTrinity Laban Conservatoire, was awarded the Director's Prize for Excellence in Music Education 2023 and I'm currently one year into a PhD in Music Education. I have a background in performance, with previous competition wins/public performances and some work with BBC Radio and RLPO. I also have a strong interest in making learning accessible and founded an international composition project working with conservatoire students from Ecuador.

My teaching combines practical performance experience with a strong research foundation, adapted to the individual needs of each student. This approach has a consistent record of helping students progress at an accelerated rate, with students regularly achieving grade 9s in both composition and performance modules at GCSE. Most students stay in my studio for five years or more, which I think says more than any qualification could.
A typical lesson covers:
Practical skills appraisal
How to get the most out of practice time
Sight-reading
Music theory, applied to what you're actually working on
Composition or exam preparation (on request)
Lessons are 30 or 60 minutes and suit all ages and abilities. Online lessons are delivered via a dedicated platform purpose-built for music tuition, offering significantly better audio and video quality than Zoom or Teams. A personalised setup guide is available on request to ensure you get the best possible experience from day one.
At the end of each session I provide written notes with clear next steps. Students also have access to a dedicated online classroom (Moodle/Google Classroom) stocked with additional resources, and a suite of bespoke learning tools developed specifically for my students, meaning support and progress extend well beyond the lesson itself. Students are welcome to send recordings or ask questions between sessions.
Above all, I believe music should be enjoyable and I take time to build a genuine relationship with each student with lessons tailored to your specific goals.
